Meeting with the UN Under Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly

On 22 September 2025, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Ms. Rosemary DiCarlo.

During the meeting, the sides discussed key areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN system on peacekeeping and strengthening international security.

Special attention was paid to the development of preventive diplomacy, including the activities of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, as well as the reinforcement of regional cooperation mechanisms.

They initiatives of Turkmenistan aimed at strengthening mutual trust between states and developing constructive international dialogue, including the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust were emphasized.

In line with these initiatives, the agenda of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly includes the item “Neutrality for peace and security”, under which it is envisioned to consider draft resolutions on “The Role and Importance of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and the Process of Sustainable Development” . as well as “International Day of Mediation”.
