Current issues of Turkmen-Spanish cooperation were discussed

On April 24, 2025, Turkmen-Spanish inter-MFA consultations were held in Madrid.

The Turkmen side was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Akhmet Gurbanov, and the Spanish side was headed by Secretary of State for International Affairs and Global Issues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Spain Diego Martinez Bellio.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on priority issues of strengthening the partnership between Turkmenistan and Spain, including maintaining an active political dialogue, expanding trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties.

According to the mutual opinion of the interlocutors, contacts at the highest level serve as a stimulating factor for the development of bilateral cooperation. In this context, the willingness to support the establishment of close contacts between the relevant structures of the two countries was confirmed.

Particular emphasis was placed on issues of interaction within international structures, in particular the UN. At the same time, issues related to the improvement of the contractual and legal framework of bilateral relations were considered.

The diplomats also spoke in favor of intensifying trade and economic ties by establishing direct contacts between the business circles of the two countries. In order to create conditions for systematic work in this direction, the issue of developing a mechanism for bilateral interaction, in particular an Intergovernmental Commission or a Business Council was also considered.

In addition, the interlocutors discussed important aspects of cultural and humanitarian relations. In this regard, the importance of cross-cultural Days of Culture, cinema and art days in strengthening cultural ties between the two countries was noted.

At the end of the meeting, a mutual commitment to further strengthening cooperation was expressed.

On the same day, a meeting was held with the Executive Director of the UN Tourism, Special Representative to the UN in Geneva Zoritsa Urosevic.

During the meeting, issues of establishing and strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation and systemic dialogue in the field of tourism, popularization and promotion of the tourism potential of Turkmenistan were discussed.
