Meeting of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO

On 15 February 2025, a meeting of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO was held in the premises of the MFA of Turkmenistan.

The meeting was attended by the relevant Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, heads and representatives of various ministries and agencies of the country.

Opening the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov noted the special attention paid by the country’s leadership to cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO.

At the meeting, the results of the activities of the National Commission for UNESCO in 2024 were summed up, and priority vectors for its further work for 2025 were defined.

It was especially noted that due to the fact that the 300th anniversary of the birth of the poet Magtymguly Fraghi was included in the List of significant dates for joint celebration with UNESCO in 2024-2025, important events were held last year, including the 10thMeeting of the National Commissions for UNESCO of the TURKSOY member countries in Ashgabat in May 2024.

In addition, it was noted that in 2024, numerous meetings, online and offline consultations were held with representatives of UNESCO and its regional offices, during which favorable vectors for constructive cooperation in science, education, culture and ecology were considered. It was emphasized that these events resulted in the adoption of important documents and decisions on future directions of cooperation with UNESCO.

Plans for collaboration in the near future were outlined, particularly in the context of Turkmenistan’s proposals to inscribe national values into the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Such present issues as strengthening Turkmenistan’s role in UNESCO’s structural units and expanding international scientific cooperation were considered during the meeting.

Besides, holding of joint events in connection with the announcement of 2025 as the «International Year of Peace and Trust» was discussed at the meeting.
