The visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan to Iran has started

On February 11, 2025, the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov arrived on a working visit to Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

On the same day, the Turkmen delegation met with Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Head of Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company Houshang Bazvand.

During the meeting, the parties noted the positive experience of cooperation, including the participation of Iranian companies in projects on construction of highways in Turkmenistan.

The sides reviewed the implementation of agreements, particularly those reached at the last meetings of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

Mutual interest in expanding bilateral partnership was expressed.

Then a meeting was held with the Minister of Oil of Iran Mohsen Paknejad.

During the discussions, the sides touched upon present issues and prospects for cooperation in the oil and gas sector, in particular, the transit of Turkmen gas through Iran to the Republic of Türkiye through the SWAP scheme. In this regard, they noted that there are vast opportunities for unfolding the potential of two friendly countries.

In addition, the delegation of Turkmenistan held a meeting with Minister of Energy of the Islamic Republic of Iran Abbas Ali-Abadi.

The sides noted the effectiveness of the meetings held last year and reaffirmed the focus of the two countries on intensifying cooperation. In the course of the meeting the current state and prospects of cooperation in the field of electric power industry, in particular the construction of power transmission lines in the direction of Mary (Turkmenistan) – Mashhad (Iran), as well as the rational use of water resources were discussed.

In this regard, the importance of coordinated activities between specialized institutions of Turkmenistan and Iran was emphasized.
