Authorized representatives of the littoral states discuss cooperation in the field of securing maritime safety

On the 28th of February 2019, the meeting of the authorized representatives of Caspian states on negotiating the Draft of the Protocol on Cooperation in the Field of Securing Maritime Safety in the Caspian Sea started at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Participants of the meeting are representatives of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran and Russia.

In the beginning of the meeting, guests expressed gratitude to Turkmen side for organizing the talks and for the hospitality. The prevention of accidents of sea vessels, protection of life and health of crew members and passengers of ships, ensuring the safety of the vehicles and the goods transported are among the main goals of the Protocol.

In this context, the issues of organizing the search and rescue operations at sea, establishing control at seaports, investigating accidents, and preventing the negative impact of external factors dangerous for navigation, including artificial offshore structures such as submarine cables, pipelines, drilling platforms, and other vessels were discussed. As is known, this document is being developed in accordance with the Agreement on Cooperation in the field of security of the Caspian Sea.

It is necessary to note that lately significant agreements are attained in the framework of cooperation between Caspian states in active participation of Turkmenistan based on the international initiatives of the President of state.

The work of this meeting will finish tomorrow, on the 1st of March, 2019.
