Meeting with the IOM Regional Coordinator for Central Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan

On April 2, 2025, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Regional Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Central Asia Serhan Aktoprak.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan congratulated the guest on his appointment to the new position and expressed hope for the continuation of fruitful partnership.

An exchange of views took place on new areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and IOM, and joint tasks for further expansion of cooperation were outlined.

It was noted that issues of ensuring the rights of refugees and stateless persons, combating human trafficking are considered as priority areas of partnership.

The parties noted the importance of implementing international standards on migration management into the national legislation and the effective fulfilment of migration legislation in practice.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors expressed mutual interest in further expanding cooperation.
