"ROUND TABLE" DEVOTED TO THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF TURKMENISTAN'S NEUTRALITY HELD AT THE PERMANENT MISSION OF TURKMENISTAN TO THE UNITED NATIONS 12 Mar

On March 12, 2015, “round table” devoted to the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan's Neutrality was held at the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations in New York. It was attended by Turkmen citizens temporarily residing in New York, Turkmen students studying at the universities of the United States, as well as representatives of local media.Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN A.Ataeva in her welcoming speech noted that in honor of the 20th anniversary of Neutrality of Turkmenistan, Council of Elders of Turkmenistan on the 20th of October 2014 by its Resolution declared the current year as the "Year of Neutrality and Peace." This year will be marked by implementation of measures aimed at increasing the understanding of the international community of the importance and role of neutrality of Turkmenistan as an important factor of regional security, stability and sustainable development, all-round progress of the country and welfare of the people. The main event will be the International high-level conference to be held in December this year in Ashgabat.In her speech A.Ataeva told about the phenomenon of neutrality, its connection with the history and traditions of the Turkmen people. Participants were familiarized with the main directions of foreign policy of Turkmenistan, aimed at strengthening the methods and means of prevention, energy, transport, environmental and humanitarian diplomacy.During the event, there was an exchange of views, discussion of the issues to conduct in New York in 2015 a number of social and cultural events to celebrate the "Year of Neutrality and Peace."All participants of the "round table" were awarded the logo of the "Year of Neutrality and Peace" and a brochure with the materials on the Neutrality of Turkmenistan.
